Under “secret”: Ex 7,11,22 and Ex 8,7,18 speak of the “secret arts” of the wise men, sorcerers and magicians of Egypt. Deut 29,29: The secret things belong to the Lord our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. Mk 4,11: To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables. [Mt 13,11 and Lk 8,10 are almost verbatim.] Under “Remember”: These citations show the loss of memory of ancient traditions, akin to Plato’s reference in Timaeus about how the Greeks have no memory (see Cognate Writings, Vol. 3, Companions Along The Way). The passages will be more fully appreciated if the reader will review the long quote from EGO, Lect. 1 that concludes the phrase “I AM” above, as well as fn 12 in the same discussion relating to Is 43,2 and the discussion under “Akashic,” noting, for instance, that the Akashic “Book” is identified as a “Book of Remembrance” in Mal 3,16 (otherwise the variation “remembrance” is not included below). The following are illustrative (cf. Job 38,21): Deut 32,7,18: (7) Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations;13 ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.. . . (18) You were unmindful of the Rock that begot you, and you forgot the God who gave you birth. Judg 8,34: And the people of Israel did not remember the Lord their God, who had rescued them from the hand of all their enemies on every side. Ps 22,27: All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord. Ps 77,4-15: (4) Thou does hold my eyelids from closing; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. (5) I consider the days of old, I remember the years long ago. (6) I commune [fn: Heb, my music] with my heart in the night; I meditate and search my spirit [fn: Heb, my spirit searches]: (7) “Will the Lord spurn for ever, and never again be favorable? (8) Has his steadfast love for ever ceased? Are his prom-ises at an end for all time? (9) Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” (10) And I say, “It is my grief that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” (11) I will call to mind the deeds of the Lord; yea, I will remember thy wonders of old. (12) I will meditate on all thy work, and muse on thy mighty deeds. (13) Thy way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? (14) Thou art the God who workest wonders, who has manifested thy might among the peoples. (15) Thou didst with thy arm redeem thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Ps 143,1-8 (quoting only portions of vss 3,5, and 7): (3) For the enemy .. . has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.. .. (5) I remember the days of old, I meditate on all that thou hast done. .. . (7) . . . Hide not thy face from me, lest I be like those who go down to the Pit. Eccles 5,20: For he [“every man to whom God has given wealth and possessions”] will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart. This passage makes more sense if the “life” is taken to be that of his Individuality rather than merely his incarnated personality. Eccles 11,8: For if a man lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity. The profound meaning of this passage is explained in “Karma and Reincarnation” herein. See the Index to locate the text where this verse is cited. Eccles 12,1: Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw nigh, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them.” Is 46,9: . . . remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other. Is 57,11: Whom did you dread and fear, so that you lied, and did not remember me, did not give me a thought? Have I not held my peace, even for a long time, and so you do not fear me? Is 64,5: Thou meetest him that joyfully works righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways. Ezek 6,8-9: (8) Yet I will leave some of you alive. When you have among the nations some who escape the sword, and when you are scattered through the countries, (9) then those of you who escape will remember me among the nations where they are carried captive, when I have broken their wanton heart which has departed from me, and blinded their eyes which turn wantonly after their idols. Ezek 16,59-61: (59) Yea, thus says the Lord God: I will deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant, (60) yet I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish with you an everlasting covenant. (61) Then you will remember your ways, and be ashamed when I take your sisters, both your elder and your younger, and give them to you as daughters,14 but not on account of the covenant with you. Ezek 20,43: And there you shall remember your ways and all the doings with which you have polluted yourselves; and you shall loathe yourselves for all the evils that you have committed. Ezek 36,31: Then you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominable deeds. Amos 1,9: [The people of Tyre] did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.15 Zech 10,9: Though I scattered them among the nations, yet in far countries they shall remember me, and with their children they shall live and return. Lk 17,26,28,30,32,37: (26) “As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of man. . . . (28) Likewise as it was in the days of Lot . . . (30) so will it be on the day when the Son of man is revealed.... (32) Remember Lot’s wife. . . . (37) . . . Where the body is, there the eagles [fn: “Or vultures”—or possibly scorpions—see discussion of Eagle/Scorpion relationship under Jn 3,14 above] will be gathered together.” Rev 2,5: Remember then from what you have fallen, repent and do the works you did at first. Rev 3,3: Remember then what you received and heard; keep that, and repent. We come now to a series of passages that, while not using any of the above key words, nevertheless point to the Mysteries and those exposed to their “secrets.” Jer 6,16-17: (16) Thus says the LORD: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ (17) I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Give heed to the sound of the trumpet!’ [See “Trumpet”] But they said, ‘We will not give heed.. . .’” 2 Cor 4,3: And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. [Of course, the corollary is that those are perishing who do not pull back its veil, which “hides” it.] |
