I-55 The four temperaments and their predominant components

The Recovery of Man in Childhood, Chap. 16

Steiner spoke of the four temperaments, so helpfully expounded upon by Harwood, which derive from the fact that one of the human being’s 4- fold components (physical, etheric or astral body, or Ego) will predominate over the others. Whichever predominates in a person characterizes the person as that temperament type, as summarized in the following chart:

Temperament Predominant Component
Choleric Ego
Sanguine Astral
Melancholic Etheric
Phlegmatic Physical
